Lovely spacious cottage, equipped with everything you can think of that you might use in a home. Thoughtful gestures left for guests, such as dish washing tablets, soap powder for washing machine, cooking oil and a wide variety of condiments etc. Large enclosed garden, safe for children and 🐕. Stunning scenery from lounge window. Comfortable beds and sofas.
Tips:We loved feeding the birds from the feeders in the garden and saw many varieties. We walked daily along the banks of the Loch just beautiful. Weather was a mix so waterproofs needed!! Staffa trips was a good half day outing, lovely to see the puffins so close and fingals cave.

21st May 2024:
The cottage is really well equipped in all ways; one of the best we have ever stayed in. Things like telescope, electric food whisk, Fire Stick TV, good showers, good crockery and glassware to mention a few. The score of 4 on cleanliness is because 2 of the baking trays and 1 frying pan had been used but not washed by a previous visitor. The cottage was generally dusty but very clean otherwise.
Tips:There is a comprehensive library in the lounge of everything to see and do during a holiday. Brilliant! Pennygate Lodge in Craignure is high class food and wine. Macgochan’s in Tobermory was great for lunch out on the balcony over-looking the town and harbour.

Owner Response:Thanks for feedback on the cleaning - we will double check the pots and pans.

25th June 2023:
Where to start!! Thank you, we had a fantastic week at Fingal Cottage and very much hope to return again. The location is perfect, easy to reach from the ferry, stunning views across the loch and easy to access all areas of the island. You have certainly thought of everything and the information folders provide so much information, in particular the wide selection of walks. The only little bit we found confusing was about the bins and when to put them out - we did our best 2 out of 3 got emptied. We had a fantastic view of a white tailed eagle 🦅 flying directly over the cottage one afternoon, an otter 🦦 both on the shore opposite and at the bridge plus red deer 🦌 on the shore and the ridge line opposite. The variety of birds is amazing, too many to mention and the garden birds certainly love the feeders. Thank you once again, we loved it. Cathie, Jim, Tim and Lauren
Tips:Definitely plan a trip out to Staffa, Iona and / or the other islands, we went with Staffa Tours (2nd time we have been out with them). Also can’t recommend Nature Scotland enough, they do small group trips and bespoke trips too. Ewan and his team are fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable about all the island and it’s amazing wildlife. We did the Ardnamurchan Explorer trip with Jack and loved it. Lochbuie is another favourite of ours with a lovely walk around the bay last Moy Castle to Laggan Sands, pretty much deserted apart from sheep and cows!! Make sure you visit the mausoleum just up from the beach with its beautiful roof and also the stone circle. Bring plenty of birdseed for the garden feeders, you won’t be disappointed!! Overall just enjoy this amazing island, its wildlife and Fingal Cottage.

The cottage was extremely well equipped, a home from home. Plenty of information about the cottage and local area and facilities. Very dog secure garden. Owner very responsive. Great location next to the loch and near craignure. Everything provided for a great holiday.
Tips:You can to up the bird food from Spar at Salen, it's a larger Spar than Craignure. Go on the Mull Charters boat trip but book well in advance. Walk up the track toward Grass point for bird watching....cuckoo, hen harrier, WTE plus much more. The Old Post Office at Loch Buie has very tasty frozen home made meals of you don't want to cook.

25th April 2023:
We received clear instructions on getting into the cottage and it was clear we could ask the owners if there were any problems. Minor gripes: No instructions for the cooker, washer/drier or dishwasher could be found (we did use them, but after quite a lot of guesswork). The front door lock and key were very stiff at first, possibly after the wet weather. I couldn’t open it at all, luckily my sister could! It was fine after the weather became much sunnier. A warning that this might be the case would be helpful.
Tips:Mostly obvious if you’re the type of people who like a Scottish island with plenty of wildlife (we saw an otter from the lounge on 2 occasions). Walking from the cottage to Grasspoint is lovely (about 3 miles each way).

Owner Response:Thanks for the helpful comments. We will make it clear to guests the instructions you were looking for are in a folder in a kitchen drawer. We have checked out the front door, and all seems ok.

I have been visiting Mull since I was 10 and also got married in the island. This cottage is one of the best I have stayed in with a beautiful view and comfort offered with dog friendliness. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathrooms spacious. The beds were also comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean.
Tips:Recommend the drive to Tobermory and watching out for seals on the small islands just pass Salen. We had a lovely spa in the Isle of Mull hotel near Craignure and of course breakfast at Arlene's at the port.

"Exemplary." Says it all. My wife and I had visited the island on previous occasions but this was a "first" as far as our younger daughter was concerned. She was suitably impressed and we too were reminded of what an outstanding venue the island is particularly as it is relatively easy to reach for us in Highland Perthshire. Thank you once again.
Tips:Strongly recommend a visit to the Cheese Farm. A first for us was " The Boathouse" on Ulva. The weather on the day of our visit there was outstanding,so we were able to have our lunch outside in an unparalleled setting scenically. Still a bit of work to be done here but nevertheless well worth the journey.

6th September 2022:
Lovely cottage with lots of space across all the rooms. Very clean with lots of facilities (books, games etc). Location is fantastic with wonderful views of the Loch and surrounding hills. Lots of wildlife on the doorstep (deer, seal, otter and loads of birds - feeders were great to attract a range of garden birds). Very easy to find and get to many of the islands locations.
Tips:Trips to Iona and Staffa a must as is a wildlife boat trip (can combine this with Staffa). Tobermory aquarium and museum are good fun (as is the nearby fish and chip van). Loch Buie and Laggan sands are great (as is the Old Post Office Coffee shop), Hides at Fishnish and Loch Torr good. Castle Duart castle and tea room also worth a visit

29th August 2022:
We really enjoyed our stay at Fingal Cottage thanks. The accomodation is of a high standard and very comfortable and clean. Lots of nice touches and attention to detail that really made the cottage stand out. A well appointed kitchen and great selection of books, guides and games too. Telescope in the front room was a particularly nice touch. The view from the cottage is fantastic and we were very happy spending time there. The location is also great for accessing the rest of Mull.
Tips:Watching wildlife around Lochdon from the cottage was a real highlight. Ospreys over the loch and red deer roaming in particular. Grass point is a short drive or pleasant walk from the cottage and a fine view point over the Sound of Mull. Nearby is the Lussa Mussel farm from where we bought fresh Mussels from Loch Spelve. Absolutely delicious and a huge bag for £2.50 - a highlight for our evening meals. Boat trip with Turus Mara from Ulva was another memorable day. As well as the visit to Staffa, we were lucky to see a large pod of dolphins on the return trip.

17th August 2022:
Large, well appointed cottage in a quiet location with view over an arm of the tidal Loch Don, suitable for families of 4 to 6 people with two bathrooms. Plenty of cupboards and chests of draws for storage including coat and shoe racks. Well-equipped kitchen with Tassimo coffee machine; there is also an iron and clothes dryer. Very good selection of maps and suggestions for hiking and other day trips.
Tips:grocery shops are all quite a distance away, but the location is good for reaching different parts of the island and the main ferry terminal is only a few minutes away. Single track roads require patience and practice, but the generally considerate and friendly style of driving makes a pleasant change. There are some fantastic beaches and walks with stunning views over the hills, lochs, sea and surrounding islands, but be prepared for the more challenging terrain required to find the best bits. Large numbers of different birds and animals (not just sheep!). The view point at the end of the Grasspoint road (short walk up hill from car park, not the pier) is beautiful in the evening sun, with views up Loch Linnhe to Ben Nevis and the Mamore Forest.

Lovely, quiet location. Well equiped. Most comfortable beds we have ever had on holiday - we wanted to take them home. Were encouraged to top up bird feeders, but no bird food suplied so had to buy some as the fat pigeons were writing banners and getting quite rude. Wi-fi did not let us down. Could see red deer from window, which was pretty cool.
Tips:Nature Scotland provided a wonderful wildlife tour. Saw common dolphins and minke whales on Staffa Tours (RIP Sea Life Survyes :() from Tobermory. Tobermory aquarium well worth a visit - go and see Professor Plankton (AKA Andy). Loch Tor - white eagle and golden eager. Hen Harrier at Ulna Ferry.

Our hosts provided lots of information about the local area, what to see,and where to find the amazing wildlife, and where to eat. The cottage was beautiful, very comfortable, and the facilities were second to none, with everything you would need and more. The view from the lounge window was amazing, and the bird feeder provided many hours of pleasure, watching a huge variety of birds.
Tips:The Craignure Inn was a cosy old pub, but the food was good.In Tobermory, would recommend Cafe Fish for a nice ambience and high quality seafood. A trip to Staff is well worth a visit, especially to see the adorable puffins, who were very tolerant of tourists. Loch Ba, a lovely spot with a good chance of seeing white tailed eagles.

The Cottage itself is clean, spacious and very well equipped. The comprehensive information folders leave few questions to be asked and the instructions on how to manage the facilities are first class.
Tips:Things to do and visit are, of course, a matter of personal choice, but included in our highlights were Lip na Cloich Garden Centre - a truly unique experience, a damp tramp round part of Ulva, strolls on the white sand of Calgary Bay, and conversely the black sand of Black Bay (once we had found it)!. The culinary highlight for us was our visit to Am Birlinn near Dervaig.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Fingal cottage, the weather was absolutely amazing sunshine all week! The cottage was delightful everything you might have needed was available there, it was warm, clean and very comfortable. The views from the lounge were absolutely stunning, to sit on the sofa and just watch the wildlife outside on the loch was a joy. With the weather being so good the mountains from the mainland were clearly visible. We didn`t want to leave and will definitely love to book Fingal Cottage again. Thank you to Don and Veronica for a truly lovely holiday,
Tips:We walked over the bridge by the cottage to Grasspoint, spectacular views!! We found it difficult to purchase bird seed/food, to fill the bird feeders in the front garden of the cottage. We manged to find some eventually on Mull, but wish we had brought some from home to attract a wider variety of birds. The whole of Mull is a delight lovely friendly people.

We stayed at Fingal Cottage during the final 2 weeks of May 2022. This is our second stay at this cottage. We found the cottage very comfortable, quiet and relaxing. Needless to say, we didn't want to go home at the end. May thanks to Don & Veronica.

Even when our return ferry was experiencing cancellation Don re-arranged his plans to accommodate us an extra night at the cottage and and we were all extremely happy, many thanks again Don for sorting this out for us as greatly appreciated.
Tips:As we love all nature and wildlife, we traveled all around the Island of Mull finding Eagles, Otters, Seals, Deer and 80 bird species during our winter stay which was fantastic. We would recommend The Little Bespoke Bakery Cafe shop in Salen which had great food and was served by very friendly staff and the Christmas Scones were especially delicious.

The cottage itself was very clean and tidy and was excellently equipped with everything you’d ever need or want. Thank you for a lovely escape, yet homely experience.

The view is stunning, the location really convenient but very peaceful and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you!
Tips:Rent kayaks from Redburn b&b for a lovely couple of hours on Lochdon. Sealife surveys boat trip a must. Lunch at the old post office in Lochbuie for Mull hot smoked salmon. Ardalanish beach beats Calgary hands down (although Calgary also gorgeous). Cheeky swim at Mull hotel before getting the ferry back. Iona for a few hours was smashing. Tips:We enjoyed fishing at Grasspoint, day trips to Treshnish isles and Staffa (do that twice) The sea eagle trip with Mull Charters, sea kayaking with Jon from Bendoran Watersports, Calgary Bay, Market Bay (worth the walk), trip to Iona. Tips:We went on Staffa Tour to visit Fingal Cave. Visited Calgary Bay and Tobermoray. We stopped by Glenfirsa for a drink as it has a small airfield but weather wasn’t too great so never seen light aircraft landing or taking off. Loved our stay in Fingal Cottage. It’s perfectly situated on Mull, so handy for the ferry, close to shops in Craignure and Salen and well placed for visiting all parts of the island. Some instruction on bathroom switches would be welcome The main viewing windows need to be kept really clean or the facilities provided to keep them clean especially with possible salt spray
Tips:Thursday night is "steak night" at the Isle of Mull hotel. Worth trying.

12th September 2017:
The cottage was beautiful and the location stunning. The picture window in the sitting room gave us some great opportunities to watch the wildlife from the cottage! We loved our stay; the cottage was warm and very comfortable, and there was ample space for us to set up a crate for our dogs to sleep in overnight. We would love to return to the cottage - perhaps when the weather might be a bit kinder! We found the dryer in the kitchen very useful!
Tips:There is wildlife everywhere - take binoculars if you have them. We saw a Golden Eagle and also a White-tailed Eagle from Calgary Beach; Sea Otters from the banks of Loch Scridian; Minke Whales, Dolpins and Porpoise (as well as a plethora of sea birds) on our Whale Watching Boat Trip from Tobermory; Red Deer and a Red Stag and lots more! We were very lucky! We can't recommend Cafe Fish in Tobermory enough, but you must book ahead. The Distillery in Tobermory isn't producing Whiskey at the moment, but there are still tours you can go on - well worth it. We walked to Duart Castle from the Cottage which was great, the Castle was really interesting, and the Tea Rooms warm and friendly with delicious food. Calgary Beach is great if you have dogs with you - ours love the sea! Just prepare for all kinds of weather (it can change very quickly) and don't let the rain stop you! It's a beautiful place!

Very happy with the cottage. Clean on arrival and generally stocked with just about everything we needed for our stay. Nice comfortable furniture in the living room; a good deal of spare storage space in the kitchen for food, etc., much more than we are generally used to in other cottages, so this was a bonus. The same in the bedrooms with more space than we needed to store clothes and possessions, etc. - again this can be an issue with other properties, although more in the bunk bedroom would be better, if possible. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again, and recommend to others. Many thanks.
Tips:A nice walk from Craignure to Torosay Castle and down to Duart Bay. You need to know that this walk is there because otherwise you wouldn't find the path which is behind what looks like a private gate to someone's property and isn't signposted from the road. Lovely beach accessed from Ardalanish Isle of Mull Weavers, beautiful on a sunny day. The Old Post Office at Lochbuie with its' honesty shop. Plus all the more well-known spots, all worth a visit.

12th June 2017:
The cottage is well described apart from having neighbours and from the photos it looks as though the cottage is remote. However the area is so quiet having neighbours was not an issue and in fact glad we chose this cottage. The owner was helpful when helping me make my decision to book. On the day of arrival I met the housekeeper who was polite and helpful. She had left the cottage very clean and told me we could contact her at any time if needed. We didn't need too. The picture window in the lounge is fantastic for watching the wildlife
Tips:Ideally located, not far from the ferry and central to most places on the island. Knockvologen beach is a must. The most stunning beach and not one other person their. If you have an interest in wildlife you must go on an organized safari. We did this through wildlife safaris. We saw everything we wanted too. However the cottage is so ideally placed from the front window we are able to see many raptors, truly fantastic! Places to eat we found limiting but we expected that. If walking be aware that there are no footpath signs making paths difficult to find. You have to watch for your next marker all the time.

You couldn't ask for a better holiday cottage to stay in. Everything you could possibly need is in the cottage. The location is fantastic and there is wildlife on your doorstep.
Tips:Look out for hen harriers, owls and deer from your living room window. Trips with Ewan at nature scotland are a must. He is very knowledgeable and even found adders for us which was quite an experience.

Fingal Cottage and the Isle of Mull never fails to delight and it was again the case this year. The location of the cottage is great for the ferry and also for accessing all parts of the island and there is a wealth of wildlife that can be enjoyed from the lounge window. Perfect.
Tips:The local bus service can be used either on its own or in conjunction with the a car to get around and shouldn't be dismissed. You can sit back and relax and enjoy the views whilst the drivers are very friendly and helpful. The bus for Iona can be hailed from the end of the road.

Lovely, modern cottage that has everything that's needed for a great stay on Mull. Our dog enjoyed the large secure garden to roam around in. Our toddler loved the lovely big window in the living room where he could see out over the front garden and the loch. We also appreciated the range of books and also the variety of board games available. The wifi was a bit hit and miss, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't, but we weren't there to use the Internet.
Tips:We would recommend having a wander on Iona, shopping in Tobermory, visiting the mull museum in Tobermory (it's small and doesn't take very long to get round but is very informative), visiting Calgary beach, driving the B8035 scenic route to see the magnificent cliffs on the west side of the island. Note, sheep roam free on the roads etc so keep an eye out for them. Also keep dogs on leads as the sheep are everywhere.
