30th September 2024:
Julie and Patrick are excellent hosts and good company. Excellent breakfast choice and quality. All rooms are comfortable and except for one all en-suite Local information is provided when booking as there are limited food choices locally in the evenings
Tips:Location in Fionnophort on the tip of Mull is Ferry for iona. Booking essential at the village pub if you want an evening meal ( good but little expensive, like most things in Island location)

Thank you, Patrick and Julia, for making us feel so welcomed and comfortable during our stay! The breakfast was delicious and the crescent rolls, jam, and butter you prepared for our early departure was very much appreciated.
Tips:We highly recommend booking a visit to Fingal’s Cave, ordering the Steak and Ale pie at The Keel Row, and visiting Ardalanish Weavers.

24th September 2024:
On my arrival around 7 pm I was given a very warm welcome and all necessary information was given plainly and fully. This room which had two single beds was perfect with a view of Iona and the surrounding countryside. This room had a beautiful modern bathroom with a bath and shower close by. Breakfast was extremely good. Great choice and beautifully cooked and presented. Very attentive hosts. The furnishings are of a very high quality and the whole house was fresh and immaculately clean. It was such a lovely experience as it was my first time travelling on my own.
Tips:I booked to eat each night at the Keel Row Restaurant which is easy walking distance from the guest house because I had no car to travel further away. The food was good and the service was excellent. The location is superb for visiting Iona as the ferry leaves from the bottom of the road and there are multiple crossings each day, even on Sundays you can travel there and back every hour or so and the crossing takes around 10 mins only.

I really enjoyed my stay. Julie and Patrick are excellent hosts. Breakfasts were great, even with a rainbow some mornings, my room.was warm and comfortable, as we had cold, wet and windy weather while I was there.
Tips:I had my dinners at The Keel Row, a restaurant just down the road. Remember to book in because it’s popular. The food is good and the menu has Scottish specialties.

Julie and Patrick have been wonderful hosts! Very helpful with small questions regarding the guesthouse and the surroundings. Very interested in ones activities and ready to share a bit of their own, but all in a very modest way. Very nice a-la-carte breakfast. My room, like the other rooms that I've been showed, was spacy, clean and well equipped. The breakfast room + adjacent sitting room have splendid vieuws onto Iona etc. . It is a easy going, comfortable place.
Tips:Depends a lot on your mobility. An easy tip: make the long circular walk past Loch Pottie. This starts at the guesthouse and can be completed via Fidden. Beautiful. More challenging: Try the walk or drive, via Fidden towards Knockvologan. That's where the road really ends. From that road end, two beautiful walks can be made. One to the hidden beach of Traigh Ghael (difficult / 2 hrs single way) and one to Erraid, starting by crossing the farmstead down to the impressive Knockvollogan beach. (easy to reach). Further on to the tidal crossing towards Erraid requires a bit of preparation and good walking skills.

Very warm and friendly welcome. Thank you for taking us to bus terminal. a great help on our leaving.
Tips:The local bus service timetable is somewhat confusing and limited times available. There are no taxis available for normal daily use. Strongly advise checking all details on this issue. Ferry to Iona very good and this is a must visit and keeps very well to timetables which are frequent options throughout day. visited island of Staffa to see fingals cave. Lovely boat and service. We were very fortunate with the ideal weather conditions. We used the near by Keel Row pub for evening meals which was very good quality and service. .

Always a warm welcome, made to feel like you're home. Nothing is too much trouble!
Tips:There a few more eating options available in the last year, which means you're not tied to the local pub in Fionnphort. Port Nan Gael and Bunessan Inn are a short drive away, as well as Glenforsa Cafe & Farm Shop near Craignure, Hook'd in Tobermory and The Boathouse on Ulva. Would highly recommend Mull Charters to see the Sea Eagles up close and personal, Staffa Tours Wildlife Adventure, and Alternative Boat Hire (which runs from Fionnphort) - three very different trips, and all VERY enjoyable.

20th July 2024:
Fantastic family Guest House in an excellent position on the Ross of Mull and particularly handy for the Ferry to Iona. The hosts and very friendly and have a wealth of knowledge about the local places to visit and eat. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable with an excellent ensuite. There was plenty of tea/coffee and hot chocolate along with milks and sugars with the home made shortbread and chocolates. Breakfast has a wide choice covering all tastes but the scrambled egg is out of this world. Julie is very creative and made a Teddy Bear in the colours we chose within a day. There are also two holiday cottage on site as well. Best Guest House we have ever visited.
Tips:The local pub/restaurant in Fionnaphort is closed on a Monday but we went to the Bunessan Inn which had a good range and quality of food on offer. Ardalanish Weavers are a good place to visit where you can see the making cloth from the local wool. They provide free tea/coffee and a range of local frozen meat but the fresh bridies are something else. Iona has many places to visit and will take more than one visit.

Julie and Patrick are perfect hosts, friendly, and made us very welcome in their home. The room was clean and as described with homemade shortbread and chocs on arrival. Excellent breakfast each morning - good variety and high quality.
Tips:Walk round the circumference of Iona to see the incredible beaches - but need GPS watch to keep on track as tracks not well trodden and often through peaty bog - but well worth it for the beaches which are stunning. Walk up Ben More - challenging - but well worth it for the view at the top where you can see for miles over to Iona, Skye, Islay, Jura etc etc. Walking boots essential.

Absolutely loved it - we felt like part of their family! Julie is full of all the info you'll need for the area and is a woman of many talents - check out her craft work for sale at the guest house and at the Columba Centre.
Tips:Keel Row is fine, if a bit limited menu-wise. The Creel carry out down at the ferry jetty is superb and they have a nice al Tesco area to eat when the weather is nice. Patrick is a proper chef, so your breakfast will be amazing every morning. Both Juir & Patrick are alway keen to engage with their guest to ensure they have an enjoyable stay. One quick tip, the island's sheep have free reign on the roads, so just be patient if they are 'just chilling' on the road or 'resting' against the entrance gate at Caol Ithe!

Everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Our host is the most thoughtful, gracious host. She provided us with all the information we needed and showed us around. The rooms are just perfect! The breakfast was very delicious and freshly made. They went way beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Thanks for a wonderful stay! We will be back.
Tips:Staffa Tours provide a memoriable wildlifetour to the Islands of Lunga (Puffins, Razorbills, Ouster Catchers and much more) and Staffa (Fingal‘s Cave) Do not miss to visit the Isle of Iona!

We have visited Caol Ithe over a number of years and we have been delighted in every way with the beautiful and comfortable accommodation. The little details in the rooms such as a coffee machine, selection of teas, little chocolates and shortbread indicate the high level of customer service. Julie and Pat go out of their way to make everyone feel special and welcome especially with the delicious choices with the Breakfast Menu. We have been made so welcome with every visit we have had with Pat and Julie at Caol Ithe.
Tips:Every visitor should visit Iona, not just to visit the Abbey, but to walk to the North Beach, or up on the Machair and across the Isle. Taking a trip on the Staffa boat is incredible. Not only to see the wonderful Fingal's Cave, or the beautiful little Puffins, but there is the chance to see dolphins, Minke whales and basking sharks on the trip over to the Isle or the journey back. Visitors should also visit the Community Centre down the road from Caol Ithe to see the wonderful art and crafts for sale from skilled crafter people or artists living on Mull such as Julie .

Very helpful and informative owners, and flexible to timings. Knew of sailing and bus timetables, plus best places to visit on Iona. Good breakfast. Lovely touch having a communal lounge with telescope across the sound.

Julie is exactly the right person to run a B&B - super friendly, super knowledgeable, full of suggestions and interested in you as a guest. She’s full of positivity and energy! Our room was very spacious with a huge bed and had everything you could possibly need including home baked biscuits and chocolates every day. Great choice of breakfast cooked by Patrick everyday - all delicious.
Tips:Perfect if you want to visit Iona and do the boat trips to the Treshnish Isles. There is only one place to eat in the village - Keel Row - be sure to book ahead - very good seafood and lovely staff. We also pre- ordered a seafood platter from the Creel Shack down by the Ferry Terminal and ate it back at Caol - Ithe. Lovely location as quiet with lovely beaches. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend Caol-Ithe. From the first moment it was obvious this was a special place. The welcome by Julie and Patrick was warm and all relevant information was given with clarity. The dining and lounge areas were spacious and had beautiful views over the island and the decor had been tastefully chosen. Everything looked fresh and attractive The bedroom was spacious and comfortable with a lovely touch of home-baked shortbread. I had the private facilities which included a large bathtub. This guest house is on one level and I appreciated not having to take luggage up several flights of stairs. Also off road parking was a plus. The breakfast was generous, had multiple options and was delicious. Julie and Patrick have the highest standards and are obviously there to accommodate the needs of their guests. They are passionate about good hospitality and certainly carry through with a positive manner to ensure the best experience.
Tips:Mull is a beautiful island and a wonderful stepping stone to the Isle of Iona. Caol-Ithe is just a five minute walk to the ferry and Iona is well worth a trip or two. I also went on Staffa Trips tour. It was a great morning and the staff very helpful.

Nice accommodation in an equally nice area. The hosts were friendly and welcoming; they made a nice breakfast, too.
Tips:If you're travelling by car from the other side of the island, give yourself plenty of time (at least 2 hours) to get here as the roads are single track and you have to consider the oncoming traffic. Despite Fionnphort's remote location, there is loads to do. Of course, it's ferry terminal can take you to islands of Iona and Staffa, which are highly recommended.

Patrick is an excellent chef and the breakfast menu is well presented with lots of choices in a dining room with fantastic views. Thank you to both of them.
Tips:We enjoyed an excellent boat tour of the Islands with Staffa tours they seemed to really enjoy the job and looked after everyone. It’s a busy area and you must BOOK the local pub for dinner which was very good. The Ferries were busy and I booked that in advance. I can not recommend or praise Caol-Ithe Guest House highly enough! It was an incredible one night stay - we were sad to leave. At the end of the main road we felt tucked away from foot traffic and still right next to everything: perfect location. Our room was spotless, beyond cozy and comfortable, an absolute pleasure to spend our time in. Wonderful treats were left by our hosts and the fully equipped coffee and tea station in the room allowed us to enjoy the fabulous view from our room window with a hot bev before bed and in the morning. The bathroom was nicer than ours at home - luxurious water pressure and lovely shampoos and soaps! And the breakfast in the morning... absolutely incredible. We were blown away by the whole experience. Thank you so much Julie and Patrick for making our trip so special. We can't wait to visit again.

Tips:The village consists of just a few houses. There is a pub where you can also eat very well. However, you should book a table there in advance. This can easily be done online. There is also a small supermarket with a post office. There is a snack bar with a good selection of fish and chips and other seafood right by the ferry landing stage. On Iona we recommend the Rookery Café. The food was excellent and when the weather is nice you can sit in the idyllic garden.

A lovely warm welcome, comfortable room and great food. A sound base for our pilgrimage to Iona - thank you.
Tips:Don't forget to book in advance for a meal at The Keel Row - community run pub & restaurant that is very popular. Also try the amazing fish & chips down at the port. Iona is just a ferry away - lovely white sands and turquoise sea at the north end and, of course, the peace and tranquillity of the Abbey. The 9am service is worth getting across for and the sunsets are awesome.

Julie and Patrick were two of the most hospitable hosts we've ever come across. The value for money provided by their service was outstanding - we couldn't believe it. The decor was immaculate and homely. Our room had bathrobes, chocolates, a coffee machine, waterfall shower...if that weren't enough we had access to a sitting area with the most gorgeous view, as well as books/games and a fridge for our own drinks etc. There are also gardens to sit in. The breakfast was delicious and the menu varied. Julie and Patrick also gave us lots of advice about what to do in the area. We would go back anytime 😊
Tips:There is a coastal walk leading to a bay with an incredible view of Iona at the opposite side of the guesthouse. It was a great way to start our day. Behind the guesthouse are more well directed walks which pass the local beach. The Keel Row pub and restaurant just down the road is a must. We had an excellent night with great service, lovely food, nice people and incredible live music. Regular boat tours to Staff and Iona.

Julie and Patrick are fabulous hosts and provide attention to detail in every aspect. These include home baked shortbread biscuits and truffles in your room and ensure you get the best out of your stay with local information and advice - if needed. Comfortable beds, hot showers and a good breakfast are the pre requisite for a good BB stay and we enjoyed all this and more. A great range of breakfast choices too.
Tips:Keel Row Pub/restaurant. Community run, friendly and welcoming. Cosy wood burner in the bar area that belts out a good heat which we appreciated after a blustery trip back from Staffa and Iona. ( Staffa Tours for Staffa and Fingals Cave). Really good meal at Keel Row too.

Tips:The Keel Row Pub and Restaurant ( the only one in town) was really good for the 2 evenings we ate there. Had some nice short but scenic walks near Fionnphort. Visited the Weavers near Bunnasan. And walked along a lovely beach slow their farm . We did get to Isle of Staffa the second morning and were able to explore the rocks and cave and headland. It was a scenic boat trip.

I particularly appreciated being able to spend 2 nights in another room at a most reasonable rate. It made all the difference for my friend and I to have a break from each other's snoring. We enjoyed chatting to you and admired Julie's wonderful crosswork and patchwork on display. It was good of you to allow us to stay in the accommodation after checkout time.
Tips:If you want fish and chips in the booth near the ferry, get down there early as at 5.00pm there were no fish and chips left. The Keel Row, although not a very exciting menu, served good, tasty food. There was live music in the pub on our second night, so if that appeals to you check with the pub if there will be music when you stay at Caol - Ithe. Visiting the Abbey on Iona is a must.

Very friendly, accommodating hosts. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Breakfast was the best ever and catered for all our needs. The best hosts we have encountered, thanks for a fabulous stay.
Tips:The food at the Creel shack was excellent for myself. Had the scampi one evening and the fishcake another. My friend had the lobster on the 2nd occasion but was disappointed, had to send it back as it was cold in the middle. Chips were scrumtious too. Trip to Iona recommended on a sunny day. The beaches, we visited I think all the sandy beaches, but by far the White Sands and Traigh an t-Suidh at the north side are absolutely stunning. You will need a full day to appreciate the whole island if you are a photo fanatic like we are. We went on the 9.55 ferry and returned just after 5pm. There are a few beaches on Mull we also visited, 2 enroute from Craignure to Fionnphort which again are stunning. Uisken and Ardalanish. Fidden and Knockvollogan are close to Caol-Ithe Guest House (our fab base) which again are worth a visit on a sunny day. On our way home, we visited the hide at Fishnish to see if we could spot the local wildlife but we weren't so lucky to see the otters or sea eagles on the day. All in all a fantastic 3 night stay on the Isle of Mull with fantastic hosts at our B&B Caol-Ithe Guest House.

Absolutely loved our stay in Fionnphort in Patrick and Julie’s lovely home! Warm welcome, attentive service and thoughtfulness throughout our stay with lots of delightful touches in our room and in the home as a whole … homemade shortbread, delicious rich chocolates, REAL percolated coffee, etc. Julie & Patrick were also a mine of local information to help us plan our visit to the area. A BIG thank-you for everything. Yes, we will be recommending you!
Tips:Keel Row is good option and a few paces from the guest house. Reserve before visiting to make sure as it is busy with Iona tourists and passers-through. Simple menu, but with some unique and unusual items, like guinea fowl! Ferry to Iona and back easy access on foot. Do not plan for less than four hours over there, and more if you really want to see the whole island. Lodging is expensive over there and needs to be booked MONTHS ahead of time. Last minute is NOT going to work for there. Stay a while and take the Staffa Tour. Recommended to us by a friend, but needs five hours and we did not have enough time to do it. Can be choppy going out in the wee boat, so not a trip for the faint-hearted, but you get to see Fingal’s Cave and other things!

Owner Response:Thanks for your review. However just one correction for the benefit of any future guests...the trip to Staffa actually takes just over 3 hours.

Patrick and Julie are lovely hosts! The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with wonderful views. The private bathroom across the hall was superb. I loved having a bath to soak in. I had an accident out on Staffa and hurt my leg and Patrick and Julie couldn't have been more helpful picking me up from the boat so I wouldn't have to walk up hill back to the B&B. They were so kind. The breakfasts are superb as well and I will definitely stay again when back in the area.
Tips:Cool-Ithe is so convenient to walk down to the ferry and the Creel for takeaway seafood and also the Keel Row for a sit down dinner and drink. There are also many lovely walks down to different beaches as well. Definitely take the ferry over to Iona as well, it makes for a beautiful day wandering.

Caol Ithe is such a good place to stay. Julie and Patrick are so welcoming and helpful. They provide excellent facilities and delicious food in a very good location.
Tips:Keel Row has very good meals and is in walking distance. We can also recommend the fish chowder at the Creel food caravan by the Iona ferry terminal. The Inn at Pennygael (half an hour before Fionnphort) was also very good. We enjoyed our trip to Iona both for the historical significance of the island and for the walking and beaches. A boat trip with Turus Mara from Ulva Ferry to Staffa (Fingal's Cave) and Treshnish Isles (puffins) was also well worth the drive to get there. Driving the scenic route on our return in the early evening was very pretty. The short drive and walk down to the beach at Knockvologan at low tide was well worth it, but with boots or sturdy shoes.

Julie and Patrick were wonderful hosts. The Caol house was perfect. The rooms were beautiful. We had all four rooms booked for a family vacation and each room was thoughtfully decorated and had everything we needed to feel comfortable. The breakfasts provided were delicious. We were made to feel like special guests. Our hosts gave us advice on trails to walk that were off the beaten path. The area is beautiful, and it’s a short walk to the ferry and then a short ride to Iona, where there are more beautiful beaches to be found. The stay was the highlight of our two week stay in Scotland. Out only regret is not booking more nights at the Caol-Ithe!
Tips:The ferry to Iona is just a few minutes away. Our family explored the less traveled parts of the island (on a suggestion from our hosts). The pebble beach on the far side of the island is breathtaking, and can be walked in roughly 30 minutes. I would consider it a must see. The short ferry to Iona runs every half hour or so. The Keel Row is a local pub/restaurant about two minutes away from the B&B. It has great food and service. You would be wise to make reservations ahead of time on their website do to the size of the kitchen. The last piece of advice would be to bring plenty of layers as the Scotish weather seems to change by the minute!

The stay was a special treat:Extraordinary good, very tasty cooked breakfast, the ingredients obviously of selected quality for example the make and taste of the strawberry jam. There are only a few rooms, so you feel as if your in a hotel nearly just for yourself. They are very wonderfully kept. In the break- fastroom and lounge you look onto a magnificent landscape. Julie good infos where I might go for a longer or shorter walk. I myself appreciated living there in a thrilling scenery, very quiet surroundings although I was actually in a house an main road, it is a very small village with nowhere to go for ogher people, who don't live there. I liked especially the possibility of going to Iona whenever I liked to. I love my 6-nights-stay there, very refreshing with the superquiet nights with a sound sleep.
Tips:The Keel Row has a great cider, I liked very much. I somehow didn't manage to make a reservation for eating on time. Just a short walk on a paved way parallel to the street to Bunessan, made for the bikes, there's the bistro-cafe called The Lazy Cow with suberb lunch, cakes etc. A pity I only xame to know it at the last full day of my stay. A walk up the hillside I saw, when I looked out of my room, the front side of the house; it is a bit steep, you have to watch your step a bit, but the sights and the stillness are a very special overwelming experience. And, of course going to Iona, to the Abbey, the white beaches with their overwelming colours and views.

I stayed at the Caol Ithe on the 27th and 30th April. Both Julie and Patrick were great at helping me into my room with my Rucsac. The room was so lovely I didnt want to disturb the way it was presented. There was a good supply of tea/coffee etc, i used the coffee maker too. I was in room 1 that had its own bathroom It also was lovely and I used the oval shaped circular bath to relax that night.. After a good sleep, the breakfast was excellent next morning, julie and Patrick really looked after me and im so grateful as I needed a rest from work etc I felt totally relaxed staying here and the sitting room next to the dining area was so nice to sit in. All in all it was a lovely place to stay and all I can say is thankyou to Julie and Patrick and hopefully see you again when I hopefully stay again in future.
Tips:Book in advance for the Keel Row bar restaurant for evening meals.

Tips:We chose this location for an easy walk down to the port for our Staffa tour. It was perfect and worked out exactly as I had hoped. Iona is right across the water a ferry ride away with cute little shops and only about a mile walk to white beach. We had a great time

Very friendly and helpful hosts. Made us feel very welcome and shared their knowledge of the area with us, recommending places to visit and even making some bookings for us. The room was spotless and lovely breakfast set us up for the day.
Tips:Julie and Patrick are a font of knowledge and pointed out a good walk to a secret bay. The Lazy Cow proved to be a lovely spot for lunch and the Staffa Trip is a must for bird and wildlife enthusiasts. Iona should also be on your tick list with a walk to the north beach for some spectacular scenery.

Great room, great breakfasts, but the best thing about Caol-Ithe is the hosts, Julie and Patrick. So helpful and accommodating with our questions and requests. I'd stay again in a heartbeat. Julie and Patrick were exceptional hosts. Our room was lovely, cozy and clean with a stunning view of Iona across the sound. Breakfast was delicious with a wide array of options to choose from. Caol-Ithe is easy walking distance from Fionnphort's local pub, general store, ferries to the Isle of Iona, and more. We couldn't be more happy with choosing to stay here and would recommend it to anyone.
Tips:There are plenty of things to do within walking distance of Caol-Ithe, from visiting the historical Isle of Iona with its Abbey, Nunnery, gift shops and hikes to eating out at the local pub in Fionnphort, The Keel Row. We enjoyed visiting Iona's Craft Shop, learning about the history of the local area at the Heritage Center and grabbing sandwiches from the Columba Larder. The small Isle of Staffa is also only a short boat trip away and is a must see.

Caol’s location is stunning. Situated in Fionnphort within 5 minutes walk to the Iona Ferry it makes for a splendid stay. The owners, Julie and Patrick, are wonderful hosts. The accommodation from bedroom to guest room is perfect. Breakfasts offer great choice in a dining room which has a stunning panoramic view of the nearby mountains. It is truly 5 star in every respect.
Tips:The Keel Row restaurant is 100 yards walk from Caol. The restaurant offers a wide selection of local produce throughout the day and evening. They also provide live music performed by local musicians on selected evenings. At the ferry port there is the Creel which provides a wide range of eat-as-you go seafood. Julie and Patrick made us feel most welcome and were free with advice and suggestions. They provided us with a pack lunch and very early breakfast when we had an early departure to join a Nature Watching trip at Tobermory.
Tips:Iona a must, but then if you are here that is probably your destination. Don't go by ViaMichelin travel times anywhere on Mull. Allow nearly double. Driving on single track roads with passing bays is easy if you keep looking ahead and anticipating ongoing vehicles and be alert to vehicles behind which may be in a hurry. We were passed by an emergency ambulance. Nature Scotland nature trip worth the early morning rise and drive. Saw both Golden and White Tailed Eagles. Eating places very limited in Fionnphort particularly on a Monday evening. Enjoy your stay.

Julie and Patrick are the perfect hosts. Nothing is tto much bother for them. The accommodation is beautiful and the breakfasts absolutely first class. I have stayed here before with friends but this time with my husband who does not walk well and every time they were at the door to help him. They made this trip for us so very special for us and I will be returning soon
Tips:There is only one local restuarant and it does not open on Mondays. The alternative is the Creel down by the harbour who serve great fish & chips ets. The Caol Ithe is within a short walk to the ferry foe Iona which runs regularly and apart from the Abbey the museum and heritage centre are worth a visit. Walks to the North Beach and to St Columba's Bay are worth it just to see the rock colours.

Great facilities and warm welcome. Excellent breakfasts with good options and variety - lots of healthy items! Good location in terms of accessing ferry to Iona for a day’s walking. Amazing views from dining room and first rate lounge. We will be back I’m sure.
Tips:There are some good short walks nearby although the best walking is perhaps on Iona. Worth crossing Iona to the Bay at the Back of the Ocean - a wild spot in the west far from the busier hotspots on Iona. Also walk northwards up to the bay on the northwest corner - good to paddle or swim and some amazing very ancient rocks (Lewisian Gneiss 400 million years old with twists of pink colouring). The experience of joining the Iona Community for Sunday morning worship in the Abbey is also striking. I would also recommend visiting Ardalanish Wool Weaving Mill (in a farm on the coast south of Bunesson) where you can watch age-old techniques producing Hebridean textiles of a high standard in herb-dyed colours. Staff are very welcoming there and will show you what they do.

We had an absolutely wonderful short break and are very grateful to Patrick and Julie for all they did for us.
Tips:Coal-Ithe is perfectly located for trips to Iona and Staffa - walk to ferry. Worth taking the Staffa trip with the company Julie recommends - it was brilliant. A warm welcome, delightful room and delicious breakfast. The very comfortable lounge was a bonus and the view just wonderful. My husband really appreciated Julie managing to dry his shoes and jeans after a rather wet trip to Staffa.
Tips:Iona, of course, is a ‘must visit’. The ferries from Fionnphort are frequent and take only about 10-15 minutes. On the boat trips to Staffa, it probably makes sense to find a place in the cabin to avoid the worst of the spray if the crossing is a little rough. The Keel Row (a very short walk from Caol-Ithe) is a great pub/restaurant. Ambience is good and the food delicious. We definitely recommend booking as there aren’t many places around for dinner and it’s very popular.

We found the Caol-Lthe to be an extremely clean and comfortable guest house, Patrick and Julie could not do enough for us, and they were very helpful with knowledge of what and where to go in the area.
Tips:The Keel Row pub and restaurant is very good and right on the door step. Although I would book in advance because there is not a lot of other places to eat in the area. Highly recommend trips to The Islands of Iona and Staffa.

What a delightful couple. They welcomed us with open armed, 2 soaking wet bikers and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was lovely and clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay on Mull. The breakfast was delicious and the whole experience so much better than the night before in Oban which was more than double the price. Thanks for looking after us. Sally-Ann & Hugh

Julie was very accessible and responsive to emails. Surprising and refreshing in a world where you have to ores 1 for this and 2 for that. We loved the personal nature of the entire process from booking to advice on walks, ferries, tide times. Julie really enhanced our stay with local knowledge and thoughtful help. Patrick was very kind and offered to cook us dinner as there were no other places to eat. Delicious, beautifully presented simple food hat was way better than I could make at home. Very accommodating with everything. Would definitely recommend. Comfortable rooms and good privacy. Lovely views from sitting area. Very very good.
Tips:Ask Patrick about the walk up the hill down through the quarry and round. You need to be happy on steep grass and able to hike a bit of a way bit a great walk for us with a hidden beach.

An absolutely brilliant BnB. Julie and Patrick were perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The home was spacious, bright, beautifully decorated and spotless. They followed COVID to the letter in a rigorous but freindly way. The lounge and dining rooms were large and welcoming. We stayed for 4 nights and wished it had been longer. Thery gave good advice about local places, walks and services. By far the finest bnb we have ever stayed at. Thanks!!
Tips:A couple of hundred yards from the ferry to Iona and Staffa. Less to local shop and post office with daily papers by noon. 9th Wave Restaurant all it claims to be (fantastic!). Don't miss Kintra village and bay with wonderful red granite cliffs within 1 km of Caol. Also walk across beach to Erraid at low tide. Further away Carsaig is a an atmospheric pier in the rain and mist. But for us (ie me!!) the unsung highlight was the drive up Glen More with its views south to Lochs Sguabain,an Eilean, and Glais and onwards to Lochbuie with its fantastic beach and bay and castle and freshly baked cakes (each day 1at 8.00am at beach Post Office. We'll be back!

Everything about our stay was exceptionally high. From the early communication, advising us about pubs/restaurants closed for the season and supplying restaurant standard evening meals as well as a breakfast that catered for dietary requirements. The accomodation was high quality, well equipped and immaculate, little extras on arrival made all the difference. The location was ideal for Iona and other sea trips to Staffa. And finally the hosts were very friendly and, we couldn't have asked for more
Tips:The ferry trip to Iona was easy, paying by card when boarding and there is plenty to see on the island. The parking for the ferry is expensive but only a few 100 meters away there is free parking in the village. The road across the Ross of Mull is very scenic and good quality compared to other remote areas of Mull.

Excellent hospitality with evening meals to accommodate guests when local facilities are restricted of necessity by location and/or arrival times being subject to ferry timetables. Patrick is an excellent chef and Julie likewise a excellent hostess. Covid precautions were very good and did not find them onerous Definitely will aim to repeat our stay next time we would visit Mull
Tips:Local restaurants are very limited in Fionnphort, and within an hours driving time. Ninth Wave is a niche restaurant and prior booking is essential, if you are a foodie it is really superb but see their website. Local pub the KeelRow has limited opening but meals are good, best to book ahead ( e-mail) if you can before travelling. Frequent daytime ferry service to Iona and excursions to Staffa etc. people go to Mull for the peace and quiet and the wildlife and scenery

17th August 2021:
Our hosts Julie and Patrick were extremely helpful, accommodating and friendly without being intrusive. The breakfasts and evening meal were always fresh and delicious. They were particularly helpful and available by phone in advance of our arrival to give advice on local issues and to book a boat trip to Staffa. They also showed us a fabulous local walk starting from their doorstep. The rooms and beds were very comfortable and well equipped. We especially enjoyed the non generic decor and artwork in our room and the shared spaces (down to the bee motif teacups). The shower was great too, and the homemade biscuits and chocolate left in the rooms very tasty and welcome.
Tips:We were travelling on public transport with no car which was great as we really enjoyed our early morning schedules bus ride from Craignure to Fionnphort during which the duvet have us a lively guided tour (I don't think all the drivers offer this service though!). However its very important not to miss the last bus of the day from Craignure to Fionnphort as its an hours drive and very difficult (and costly) to find a taxi. We had no car but it was easy to get the ferry from Fionnphort to Iona and enjoy great walks, fantastic beaches, good food me to visit the famous Iona Abbey and Nunnery. There are also amazing beaches (eg Finnen) and walks on Mull. We had a good mean at the Keel Row Pub and the best fish and chips at the Creek, both near the Fionnphort ferry terminal. We had no problem with midges at all (mid August). A trip to Staffa to see Fingals's Cave is a must and further out to the Treshnish Islands to see the Puffins and other wildlife during the season. Sadly, the Puffins had all left by the time we arrived but we hope to return again to this wonderful part of the world.

A warm welcome from Julie and Patrick. Nothing was too much trouble. There were lots of extras in our room. Excellent meals. Delicious home cooking and not “chips with everything” Good to have space for wet walking shoes and coats. Comfy lounge area with lovely view. The only minus was the poor mobile and WiFi reception
Tips:This part of Mull is to be highly recommended for its superb sandy beaches and access to Iona. The location on the edge of Fionphort makes it very convenient for the ferry, pub, shop and 2 of the many sandy beaches.Having visited the Ross many times we reckon it often avoids the rain that the rest of Mull gets from the higher mountains.

Tips:It's a great place to stay, conveniently near to Iona but also offering possibilities of walks around that end of Mull. The Argyll Hotel on Iona offers good food with a superb view of the sea and back to Mull. The Keel Row pub offers a good choice of food with friendly service. Tips:The Treshnish Islands boat trip is highly recommended, the company we booked with only goes on Tues & Thurs at the moment. Local restaurants all excellent but note that the Creel can run out of options later in the day, depending on demand. It's extremely popular and rightly so! We have stayed at the Caol Ithe on a number of occasions over the last 10 years, and it has never disappointed us at all. The current owners, Patrick and Julie have made us so welcome, and have coped with the current Covid situation so well, to make us feel safe and comfortable during our stay. They have provided beautiful evening meals when the local Inn was not open. The rooms are lovely with the extra touches such as home made fudge and a coffee machine. The views from the sun lounge window are beautiful, looking across to Iona, or just watching the many beautiful little birds in the garden.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay here. The guest house is extremely comfortable. Breakfast was superb. A very good choice of food and cooked to perfection. COVID procedures were in place but this was very reassuring. We look forward to visiting again.
Tips:At the time we stayed there were very few places that were open for evening meals. Julia, our host, did offer a hot meal but unfortunately we couldn’t take the offer up. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. No complaints. You were most obliging and also easy to talk to. If looking for any difficulties, the only thing I can think of was a rather heavy, and squeaky, bathroom door! As we discussed, we would be VERY happy to stay again - with an evening meal included - though we would be prepared to face the hassle of the pub sme nights (if these wretched problems would go away). We managed to forget all about Covid while we were with you - apart from your house we didn’t touch anything or see anyone. Back to Glasgow now - still sunny! Wish we were still with you! This absolutely is a positive, forced, as you will be, into abandoning the car and visiting some of the finest scenery in Scotland.
Tips:Iona. Take your time and walk down to St Columba’s bay in the south or the sand dunes in the north. Or both.

Having only taken over Caol-Ithe a few months before Lockdown, Julie and Patrick have met the challenge head-on! Nothing is too much trouble, they have a great sense of humour and, as Patrick is a chef, we ate like Kings!! Thank you for making our stay wonderful!!

Julie and Patrick are warm and welcoming. Their home was absolutely spotless and the breakfast amazing nothing was too much trouble. As we visited in August during COVID 19 the restaurant and bar was closed in Fionnphort. Julie and Patrick offered us Dinner which were beautifully presented and very tasty.
Tips:We had a tour to Staffa and Iona. The puffins unfortunately had gone but we did see seals and a minky whale.

Tips:The island of Iona can be reached by ferry and there are tours to Staffa as well.

This is a very comfortable place to stay as a launching for visiting Iona. The owners are very friendly and helpful! The bed was a little uncomfortable but manageable. Breakfast was excellent. The lounge was cosy and a great place to read and relax. Overall an wonderful place to stay.
Tips:The community is very small with few amenities within walking distance. But the local pub is a great place to eat with enough variety to be good two nights in a row. And once you’ve been there, when you come back you’re a regular!

Warm welcome and any problems quickly rectified. Comfortable room and good breakfasts.
Tips:For those like ourselves who prefer to eat mid-day there is little in Fionnphort apart from the Ferry Terminal. However the ferry to Iona is inexpensive and runs frequently giving access to tourist attractions, shops and eating places. The pleasant walk alongside Loch Pottie runs from Caol-Ithe Guest House and deserves to be better advertised.

We loved staying at this Guesthouse. Cathy and Mike had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. Variety of breakfast choices were great and tasted really good. Beware of the lovely treats they leave you in the room - like the fudge!
