It was our good fortune to stay in this beautiful house. Every detail is in the best of good taste: comfort, space, style, books and information. Matt and Rachel are wonderful hosts, very knowledgeable about nature in the area and beyond, also place-names and gardenlore Our stay was short, just 2 nights, not near long enough to enjoy fully a special place like this.

Really enjoyed the stay in Achaban house. Very friendly owner and wife runs business. The location is really nice for the visit to Iona. Couldn't visit Tobermory and the west coast scenic route. May need to plan for a 1 week trip to cover the full Isle of Mull including Tobermory. Also kids enjoyed the hot tub provided in the property.

Tips:

Visited the near by Usiken beach and Creel fish and chips shop. Couldn't go for a local pub meal may be next time.

We were met at the door by Matt and Rachel who couldn’t have been more welcoming and told us all about the area places to walk and visit and wonderful beaches The accommodation is superb beautiful comfy cosy and spotless bedrooms with beautiful views and a lovely relaxing lounge to sit in the evening with log fires Nothing was to much trouble for this lovely couple and we will certainly be going back again

Tips:

Not many restaurants we had a superb meal at the local pub and the ninth wave restaurant is just down the road from Acaban but was closed at the time off our visit I would recommend that you take food with you has there is only one shop in the village and a spar about five miles away who sell most basic needs the kitchen has a large fridge and freezer so storage is not a problem Lots to do Birdwatching walking swimming ferry minutes away to Iona and Fingles cave

We were in Achaban House for 5 days as a family - absolutely brilliant time in a locality with endless interest and variety.

Tips:

Screel Fish and Chips in Fionnphort has local scallops and mussels in abundance. We could only book a late return CalMac(19.35) on the Saturday evening … but it is worth knowing that there is a 'standby queue' for earlier crossing and we managed to get on the 1.40pm ferry - which made all the difference to the long drive south.

Perfect house, perfect location and perfect hosts! Matt and Rachel have created a holiday accommodation with stunning views which provides excellent comfort in every respect along with access to nearby Fionnphort and the islands of Iona and Staffa. Please thank “Edna” and her hen friends for their freshly laid eggs which along with your home made bread, made a delicious breakfast. Very much looking forward to returning hopefully with the family next year.

Tips:

The ferry to Iona, also to Staffa are highly recommended. There are many walks in the area - Matt can advise. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions, local eateries were not open,

Achaban House is the perfect "getaway from it" stay. Comfortable, spacious bedrooms, lovely, well-equipped communal spaces including local art, cosy fires (useful even in the Scottish summer) and peaceful location with plenty of outside space and view over Loch Potee. Easy walking distance to Fionnphort, boat trips to Staffa and the ferry to Iona. Matt and Rachel perfect hosts, local knowledge, top-tips and there when you need them. We visited during Covid-19 restrictions and they couldn't have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. We loved it!

Tips:

Mull isn't huge but a travelling speed of 20mph on single track roads can make any trip longer than expected. We toured the North of the island in one day and enjoyed a restful stay in the South which has some of the most beautiful white beaches you will ever see. If you go to Ardalanish - Isle of Mull Weavers you can also pick up incredible lamb (and venison). Also love Staffa Trips for tour to this unique island and chance to see the puffins who make this their home from March to July.

Achaban is located in a beautiful position over looking a lake and within walking distance to Fionnphort and the ferry to Iona. The house is well decked out with everything you'll need for your stay whatever the weather. Matt and Rachel are excellent hosts with an extensive knowledge of the area, tips of where to go and what to do. That was our second stay and we'll be back again!

Tips:

Matt and Rachel have all the local knowledge of what to do, where to eat and where to source the fantastic local produce on offer including mussels, fresh veg, sea food (langoustines etc..) and local meat. There are plenty of great walks and beaches to visit in the neighborhood, if you like deserted white sandy beaches and clear water you are spoiled for choice.

Great property and lovely, helpful couple re local knowledge, walks etc. Weather duff but that was outside of their control! Something to think about but is it worth considering some bike/kayak hire options as there aren’t a lot of facilities locally?

Tips:

Lochbuie PO ready cook meals (Flora Campbell) are excellent and they have a cool box at the end of the Lochbuie road to aid pick ups. Order early if you want to order a takeaway meal from the Keel Bar. Meal planning requires some careful thought at the current time!

Achaban house is in a nice, wild location within easy walking distance to the Iona ferry. It is a comfortable large house with nice rooms. For us, the experience was marred a bit by a couple of things. First being told at the front door that we need to remove our shoes before coming in (including my 83 year Father) is outrageous in this day and age. Secondly, the breakfast arrangements are very poor. We knew that there were no cooked breakfasts and that we would help ourselves to cereals and toast. What we didn't know is that the hosts would be present. If they are there, then why don't they cook a proper breakfast? Also, we found them and the other guests very intrusive, asking all kinds of questions when we wanted a quiet breakfast. Not somewhere to go if you want a quiet time! They should provide a proper breakfast and somewhere quiet to eat for those who do not wish to be interrogated!

A beautiful house in the countryside and overlooking a small lake. Rachel and Matt were unbelievably attentive to all our needs - including posting a pair of shoes that I had managed to leave behind. Delicious breakfast and everything was perfect.

Tips:

Achaban House is a perfect location for the foot ferry to Iona or tourist boat to Staffa and other islands - just a couple of minutes' drive from the guest house. Great food at the Keel Row Inn next to the ferry terminal - have a drink in the bar while you wait to be called to your table (small kitchen so they "stagger" the orders).

Matt and Rachel are extremely welcoming, offer useful tips and advice on places to visit, and have maps you can borrow. They are even able to get you local seafood - if available - which you can cook in the spacious guest kitchen. This has a large fridge, freezer, coffee machines, masses of pots, pans, plates, glasses etc.... everything you could need to prepare dinner. A very good continental breakfast is provided, with delicious homemade bread. We definitely intend to return one day. Five stars in every respect.

Would be nice to have double bed in the family room but cannot remember if that was an option I didn't choose. Very minor problem though. Wonderful stay and would love to return!

Tips:

Treshnish Isles are a must as is a walk around Iona and Fionnphort coast. Battered scallops at Creel Kiosk were also pretty amazing.

Very welcoming, informative and environment friendly hosts, who are experts on wildlife. Wonderful location, overlooking a loch, with easy access (1 mile) on new footpath to Iona ferry and village. Well equipped large kitchen for your own cooking, if wanted, and a lovely meeting place for guests from all over.

Tips:

Watch a playful mink family along the brook near the Fidden campsite farm.

Matt and Margaret were welcoming and helpful hosts. We felt even better than home, chatting with our hosts and other guests, having access to a well equipped kitchen, warming our bones near the fire in the confortable living room. We very much enjoyed the calmness of the house, the songs of the birds and the wind and the rain (they are well equipped to dry quickly wet clothes!). We enjoyed walking in the wild nearby, with the sheeps, highland cows and birds everywhere. Would love to return some day!

Tips:

Interesting pub just a mile from the house. Nice new path to walk to town. Limited products in Fionnphort grocery, but access to more interesting products in Iona, 10 minutes by ferry.

Lovely B&B with very clean facilities and a lot more amenities than your average accommodation. The family room is excellent for groups or families. The hosts could have not been kinder, nicer or more accommodating.

Tips:

The pub is not the best if you have kids/teenagers as the wait for a table can be long. The Creel shack by the harbor has lovely food. Iona has more food options than Fionnphort if you don't mind an early dinner to catch the last ferry home.

We stayed at the lovely Achaban House while visiting the south of Mull, and found it to be a very beautiful and convenient place. It is close to Fionnphort and Bunessan, and has a beautiful view of Loch Pottie. The rooms are spacious and clean, and there is access to the kitchen and the lounge. 6th June 2019:

The B&B is a fifteen minute walk/3/4 mile into town along the (quiet) main road. A paved bikeway is almost completed to the town and beyond Achaban, that should make the walk even more pleasant. Rachel and Andy were delightful hosts. The breakfasts aren't hot, but there's plenty of coffee, fresh breads, cheddar, yogurt, bananas, granola and cereals. They put a fire on in the fireplace to cut the spring chill, and other guests played scrabble; the living room space is very comfortable. Parking on site.

Tips:

There is a fancy restaurant nearby that people book six months in advance and drive two hours each way (at least) to access. Otherwise, it's the pub/restaurant in town, with seatings 6 - 8, and little else. We had to wait 1 1/2 h to get a table, not realizing that if you stop by when the pub opens at 5, they'll take reservations starting at 6! It took us 3 nights to realize this, and few stay that long. Take the boat to Staffa. Take a hike on Iona. Visit Ardalanish Weavers. The best hiking is not here, but in eastern and north Mull.

This was our second stay at Achaban house for our now it seems annual trip to Iona! We really enjoyed our stay with Matt and Rachel again and felt very welcome. I really like the set up of private rooms and shared kitchen to allow mingling with other travellers for a good yarn but also the ability to nip back up to your room if you want to private space. Achaban house is child friendly, clean, tidy and very well run. It is a 15 minute walk to the Iona ferry which my young daughter aways enjoys, especially if we get to see highland cows along the road. We explored a few new beaches this year and are already planning our return next Spring. Thanks both for another great stay.

Tips:

The Ross of Mull has plenty on offer and I was lucky to have beautiful sunny weather while staying here. From Achaban House it's a 5 minute drive to Fionnphort where you can take a boat out to Staffa or Iona, or spend the day going between the beaches. The Keel Row is great for pub food but if you can only go one place I'd recommend the Creel Shack at the pier. Look forward to being back here again soon!

So a nice stay ! We would not leave a so beautiful and warmy place. Next time we will stay a whole week to have much time to see all the landscape, Isle over Mull, Iona and so on. And also to have friendly exchange with others Guests, Mark and his so pleasant wife( so sorry I can't remember your first name ) And why don't we will have dinner (with other guests) together .Each guests cook a country speciality !! I hope we will be back soon.

Tips:

On Fiohnnport you must have to eat at the Keel Row. The battered Haddock is so... giant and good. The Duchars Caledonian beer too.... Achaban House is the right place to discover the West of Mull (both sides of this part ) and to have discoveries of other isle all around. Nice walking along the shore at Adarnalish and interesting visit of local weaver. You can also buy beautiful things .Scotland quality for an entire life!!

From accommodation 30 min drive to start of 'scenic route' to Salen - beautiful scenery on 'route'. Limited restaurants, book in advance for table in Fionnphort. Good alternative to eat on Iona late afternoon and get last ferry back (check ferry times). Good kitchen facility with fridge access in Achaban House for self catering. Small local supermarket facilities. Pass mussel farm with honesty box. on drive from Craignure ferry to accommodation. Visiting both Iona and Staffa is possible to complete in a day. Such a beautiful house, simply but tastefully decorated with nice touches of Harris Tweed, and our room was very well appointed with a gorgeous view over Loch Pottie from the huge bay window. We enjoyed the informal breakfast with good coffee and gorgeous home-made bread in the communal kitchen dining space. Matt, Rachel and Margaret were extremely welcoming and very helpful with a lot of knowledge of the local area. There is a large collection of maps and guides and I pored over a large OS map of the local area on one of the huge tables in the living room. We took Matt's advice on directions to Tobermory and saw otters at play at the shore almost exactly where he said we might see them. Awesome. Would definitely recommend and we are very likely to stay at Achaban again.

Tips:

An easy 15 minute walk to the Fionnphort jetty – watch out for the sheep and highland cows! Highly recommend a trip to Staffa and Iona with Staffa Trips. Ate at The Creel Row both nights.

A fantastic place to stay - wish our stay had been longer! The guest kitchen is extremely well equipped and provides a great opportunity to chat with other guests and the lovely family who run the guest house.

Tips:

There are some lovely restaurants on Iona, but not many in the immediate vicinity of the guest house, so I'd recommend that you come prepared to make use of the lovely guest kitchen! Perfect location for a day trip to Iona and lots of beautiful walks and beaches around Fionnphort too. I can't wait to go back!

A spotlessly clean and comfortable place to stay. We received a lovely welcome from the owners who also gave us great advice on routes around Mull etc. We would love to have stayed longer and will definately recommend Achaban to others.

Tips:

Not many restaurants in the area so go out early or book your evening meal as places to eat become full very quickly in peak season. The Blackbird in Bunessan has great food.

Matt and Rachel were the perfect hosts. Achaban House is a stunning property, beautifully appointed and we didn't want for anything. The quiet position and beautiful view out over the Loch, and only a short stroll to town, made for the perfect place to stay. We only wish we had more time there. We only stayed 2 nights, but felt we had been there for a week, and a big part of that was Matt and Rachel's hospitality and their stunning property. We would highly recommend Achaban House as the perfect place to stay on Mull and experienbce the stunning beaches, and with easy and convenient access to beautiful Iona.

Tips:

Check out the stunning coastline and islands, and beautiful beaches. Definitely worth the walks to the more remote beaches. And worth getting across to Iona on the early ferry to beat the tourist buses coming on to Mull for the day to visit Iona.

My daughter and i had a lovely stay at Achaban house. The guest kitchen/ensuite rooms set up was the perfect set up for us. It was really fun to chat to other travellers whilst making dinner and retreat to the privacy of your room when we wanted. Rooms were really clean. I've stayed in a lot of guest houses and i think this is the cleanest i've seen! They were stylish but basic again perfect. Owners were always on hand but also maintained respectful distance. It is obvious they work really hard to create this balance and this was reflected in the peaceful, friendly atmosphere of the guest house. I wouldn't hesitate to come back and recommend to anyone staying on Mull.

Tips:

For small children there are plenty of beaches on Mull and Iona. My 4yr old really enjoyed our daily ferry ride to Iona which was really novel.

The bathroom could have been cleaned for us during our 6 night stay. That is the reason for our 4 score. Otherwise we found the accommodation exactly what we were looking for during our visit to Iona And Mull. We liked the informal but very attentive and helpful attitude of the owners.

Tips:

Visit Iona and enjoy the atmosphere of this special island. Hire a bike for a quick look round or enjoy a day walking. Appreciate the bird life. Book a trip with Mark on ‘the alternative boat trip’ Visit Fingles Cave. Spot puffins, seals, dolphins, porpoises and other sea birds. Bird watch on Mull...see eagles, sea eagles , cuckoos amongst others! Book a ‘special’ dinner at The Ninth Wave before you arrive . Excellent pub in Fionphort. From the very first contact with Matt & Rachael I felt that we had made the right choice. The location is fabulous but their relaxed and more modern approach to a B&B is great. The room was spacious and clean and the fact that you can make your own tea and food if you want in the kitchen is an added bonus. We didn't use the sitting room as the weather was too nice to be indoors but it a very welcoming space. Matt was extremely helpful, from suggesting spots to launch my boat to contacting me when I forgot some stuff after leaving. He even delivered some of my wife's clothes that she also left to the next B&B we were staying - above and beyond! We highly recommend Achaban House and will definitely be returning.

we had not booked a place to stay for the night and arrived at 930pm. I believe we took Rachel's last opening. We were so relieved as I'm afraid it would have been a night in the car as there was nothing else available on the Isle. Breakfast is yummy bread with butter and jam. Very basic but very tasty.

Tips:

visit Iona as early as you can in the morning. take a walk to the north and south of the island. south will take you a couple of hours but the views are breath taking and it is so peaceful. See the Abbey last when all the buses have left. If you are trying to get off the isle that same day, make sure you book a spot on the ferry. Ferries are very busy. we did get off Mull but only after waiting for the 3rd ferry and last of the evening Book before you go in advance.

If we could give this 6 stars we absolutely would. Our stay with Rachel and Matt was beyond exceptional. They went above and beyond in every capacity. The house was clean and lovely. They offer a breakfast with delicious homemade bread. We could not recommend this place enough. We will certainly be staying again next time we are in the area.

Tips:

Fionnphort is very close - about a 20 minute walk or 2 minute drive - and offers many shops and restaurants. We had good experiences at the Keel Row, the Ninth Wave, and the Fionnphort craft/gift shop (near the free park). If you are visiting Iona, the free park is up the hill to the left, just before you reach the pay park - definitely worth finding so you don't worry about parking. It's a lovely area to explore and there are good hikes and walks from Matt and Rachel's.

Mull is simply stunning. The icing on the cake was the accommodation in Achaban house. What a warm genuine welcome & attentiveness from the hosts from start to finish. You have very obviously put heart and soul into the renovations & offer beautifully decorated, comfortable, spotless rooms in a lovely location. Thank you both for your genuine hospitality. Well done!

Really friendly host who was incredibly helpful when the local restaurant we had booked refused to honour our booking and 4 hungry adults and 4 children returned to raid our own food supplies and cook our tea. the use of the kitchen was invaluble.

Friendly owners. Comfortable room. Simple but ample breakfast.

Tips:

It's an easy 10-15 minute walk down to (and importantly, back from) the pub and the ferry to Iona. As the choice of places for eating out nearby is limited, having the facility to self cater is an excellent idea (although we didn't feel the need to make use of this ourselves, as we were only staying for one night).

This relatively new B&B in a wonderful old house in a beautiful setting was perfect for our visit to Mull and Iona. Matt and Rachel could not have been more accommodating both when we booked and while we were staying. We enjoyed learning a bit about their journey to owning a B&B. Their excellent taste as they completed renovations is evident throughout - up to date and cheerful while honoring the heritage. We liked our bright blue room which had everything we needed.

Lovely guest house. The beds were very comfortable and the whole place was nice and quiet. The living room has a good view and is a nice place for chilling out. The kitchen is well equipped although only has two sinks (with a shared tap). The fresh bread is excellent.

Tips:

Ninth wave (high end restaurant) is a 15 minute walk away. Taxi may be available (but best book). The Keel Row (pub restaurant) is also a 15 minute walk away and is nice for stodgy food. The road down the left hand side of the lake is a good place for spotting birds.

A haven of tranquility a stone's throw from Iona. We received the warmest of welcomes on arrival and loved every minute of our stay. It's a truly wonderful place to stay. The rooms are lovely and the house throughout is beautiful. The self catering kitchen facilities are super and the dining room perfect for relaxed breakfasting and dining at night. The owners were brilliant and made us feel so welcome. Thank you again.

Tips:

The owners were a great source of suggestions of how and where to see wildlife. Mull itself did not disappoint. The island is stunning. We saw otter, hen harrier, golden and white tail eagles ... and that was just one afternoon! It is a vibrant island, showing off some of the very best Scotland has to offer by way of landscape (gorgeous beaches, glens and mountains), food, culture, history and wildlife. A gem on the West coast, only a short fun ferry ride from the mainland that we hope to return to many times.
